Hold Fast To Your Dreams

I have a dream today.

I have a dream that one day every vally shall be exalted, every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight, and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together.

Wow, what a dream it has been for Martin Luther King. But the changing world seems telling me that people gradually get their dreams lost somehow in the process of growing up, and sometimes I personally find myself saying goodbye unconsciously to those distant childhood dreams.

However, we meed dreams. They nourish our spirit; they represent possibility even when we are dragged down by reality. They keep us going. Most successful people are dreamers as well as ordinary people who are not afraid to think big and dare to be great. When we were little kids, we all dreamed of doing something big and splashy, something significant. Now what we need to do is to maintain them, refresh them and turn them into reality. However, the toughest part is that we often have no ideas how to translate these dreams into actions. Well, just start with concrete objectives and stick to it. Don’t let the nameless fear confuse the eye and confound our strong belief of future. Through our talents, through our wits, through our endurance and through our creativity, we will make it.

Hold fast to dreams, for if dreams die, life is a broken-winged bird that cannot fly. Hold fast to dreams, for when dreams go, life is a barren field frozen with snow. So my dear friends, think of your old and maybe dead dreams. Whatever it is, pick it up and make it alive from today.

我今天有一個夢想。

我夢想有一天，幽谷上升，高山下降，崎嶇之地變平原，曲折之路成坦途。聖光展露，滿照人間。

這對馬丁路德金是怎樣的一個夢想啊。不過這個變化着的世界似乎在告訴我，在成長的過程中，人們卻不知不覺把他們的夢想弄丟了，而我自己也有時會覺得在告別很多童年的夢。

I Am Tripping My Elephant Here

Once upon a time, a weenie ant was walking on his way. As he was walking, suddenly he felt the ground shaking terribly. He looked around with his paranoid eyes and saw an elephant walking right behind him. Quickly, the little ant covered himself with dirt, but one leg was unfortunately left out. A sparrow saw everything, so she flew down with the purpose of teasing the ant: “Hey, chicken! Watch out your leg, it’s out!” The ant felt embarrassed at first but then calmly responded: “ Shi…I am going to trip that elephant.”

Right now, I’m standing on this glamorous stage. But everything here reminds me of is a not so fun memory. Around this time last year I was in Nanjing competing in another speech contest. That was the first time for me to be in such a large event. Of course the pressure I was under was immense too. After a sleepless and stressful night, I went onto that stage without the feeling in my legs. That speech turned out to be horrible. I don’t remember how I get down from there, but I do remember afterwards I just wanted to find a hole to hide in just like the ant in the story. Back at my school, it took a long time for me to recover. Thanks to all the help I got from my special friends. My confidence was restored. After rounds of giving speeches and answering tough questions, I am here today. From all that I’ve been through I’ve learned that a good future is based on a forgotten past, if I want my life to go on well I have to let go of my past failure. So today, with out fear, I am tripping my elephant again.

我又一次在絆大象

從前，一隻小螞蟻在路上走着，走着走着，忽然感覺到地在顫動，回頭一看是一隻大象正朝他走來。於是他很快用土蓋住身體，不幸一隻腳忘在了外面。一隻麻雀看到了一切，她飛下來想要取笑一下這隻螞蟻，説：“咳，膽小鬼，小心你的腳，露出來了!” 螞蟻開始有些尷尬，但一會不緊不慢地告訴麻雀説：“小聲點，我要在絆那隻大象。”

今天，我站在這個講台上。但周圍的一切讓我想到的卻並不是一段有趣的回憶。大概是去年的這個時間，我在南京參加另一個全國英語演講比賽。那是我第一次參加大賽，當然壓力非常大。經過壓抑無眠的一整夜，我走上了演講台。那時我有史以來最差的一次演講。我不記得自己怎麼從講台上走下來的，只記得當時很想找一個地方躲進去再也不出來就想我故事中的螞蟻。回到學校，我花了好一段時間才恢復過來。幸好有朋友和老師的鼓勵，我又一次有了勇氣和信心。經過一輪又一輪的演講和回答問題，我今天站在了這裏。讓也我領悟了一個道理：一個好的將來是建立在忘掉過去的基礎上的，直到真正忘記過去的失敗生活才會變的美好。今天，我沒有懼怕，又一次站到了大象的面前。

Thank you very much for choosing to come in such a cold y my topic is about choice and process.A research shows that a man has to make 73 choices one so many choices one day, people easily get so confused and afraid of making wrong choice that they hesitate and finally miss the true part of life. In my opinion, the following part is of much more importance than the choice. Life is a box of chocolate,you never know what you will get. Forrest Gump made no decision by and for himself but he accomplished great success with his strong will in the process. The process is not the road itself but the attitudes and feelings ,the caution, courage and persistance we have as we encounter new experience and unexpected obstacles. Take myself as an example, I changed my major when I became a postgraduate. After the choice,days have been harsh for me.I cannot understand the new lessons at all. For they are closely related to mathmatics which I learned nothing about before. However wuth the belief that this is the great chance for me to experience new ideas and challenge myself,I persisted. I asked for help from every channel and reorgonized my life. Gradually I could understand some parts and even found maths over, I learned to act instead of complaining. In retrospect,the choice left no trace in my mind but the happiness and bitterness of the past four months becomes an unforgetable experience in my life.
