許多人家都要吃大葱和蛋餅,寓意聰明伶俐,這個習俗一直延續至今。有的人家還要捏面花,稱作“蒸小燕”, 吃白麪小雞和雞蛋。寓意小燕子來了,真正的春天到來了。清明這天早晨全家人一定要吃雞蛋和小雞,心明眼亮不得病,很多學生要帶雞蛋給老師以表敬仰。另外,清明節時將印有蠍子圖案的紙貼在家裏,家中不招蠍子、蜈蚣,尤其是在農村特別盛行。

“清明前後,種瓜點豆”,這是一句流傳廣泛的民間諺語。清末民初,農村一帶開始合理安排農時,清明節這天,好多農家給牲口吃高粱米飯,俗語:“打一千,罵一萬,不忘清明節一頓高粱米飯。”吃高糧米粥、麥子粥、玉米粥,表示日子步步高,這一天用粥要讓牛、驢等飽餐一頓,以犒賞它們一年的辛勞。
