Dragon Boat race Traditions

At the center of this festival are the dragon boat races. Competing teams drive their colorful dragon boats forward to the rhythm of beating drums. These exciting races were inspired by the villager's valiant attempts to rescue Chu Yuan from the Mi Lo river. This tradition has remained unbroken for centuries.

Tzung Tzu A very popular dish during the Dragon Boat festival is tzung tzu. This tasty dish consists of rice dumplings with meat, peanut, egg yolk, or other fillings wrapped in bamboo leaves. The tradition of tzung tzu is meant to remind us of the village fishermen scattering rice across the water of the Mi Low river in order to appease the river dragons so that they would not devour Chu Yuan.

Dragon Boat festival memorializes the Chinese poet Qu Yuan.

He committed suicide by drowning himself in a river because he was disgusted by the corruption of the Chu government.

People sat on dragon boats, and tried to scare the fishes away by the thundering sound of drums.

農曆5月5日晴

我最喜歡過家鄉的端午節，因為家鄉的端午節特別有趣。

今天端午節，一大清早，我就跟在奶奶屁股後面去準備粽葉，糯米，肉塊兒，紅棗，菜乾等包粽子的材料。奶奶忙前忙後的，我想幫忙，樂瘋了似的一個勁地問：啥時候包呀?啥時候……奶奶不耐煩地説：“看電視去，包的時候叫你。”我被哄走了，耳朵邊一隻想聽見奶奶的呼喚聲。到了中午，吃完飯後，終於可以包了。奶奶先把粽葉圍成圓錐形後，再把摻和在一起的糯米菜乾放進去一勺，壓扁後，再放肉或紅棗，再放一勺，再壓扁。這樣粽子很飽滿。圓錐裏面放滿了餡後，再把上頭的粽葉將露出來的蓋住，再把一層粽葉再將它裹起來，繫上繩。一個完美而飽滿的粽子誕生了。我也嘗試做了幾個，嘿嘿!我爆出來的都一些“醜八怪”。雖然不好看，但我很快樂。

端午節還有一個偉大的傳説。在戰國時期，有一位叫屈原的詩人，他非常熱愛祖國。有一次，國家敗亡了，他抱着必死的心，跳進黃河裏。人們為了紀念屈原，把每年這個時候稱為“端午節”。因此，許多人會把剛包好的粽子扔進黃河，紀念屈原。而我的家鄉也有一個關於端午節的風俗習慣。那就是全村鄉親們坐在小劇院裏看戲。依依呀呀的，不知道唱些啥玩意。老人們倒聽得入迷。我們這些生活在新世紀的人們卻有些不滿意。

我愛家鄉的端午節，為了紀念偉大詩人屈原。
