宋淳煕間趙汝愚等聞朱熹“得道統之正”，乃建館城冠山東峯，延朱熹主講其中。從弟汝靚、子崇憲及曹建等師事之。朱熹題其堂曰“雲鳳堂”。後為人所據。李榮庭贖復之。後又為兵毀。

明七年級度入於寺。弘治二年(1489)知縣沈時重建於絕頂。不久又毀於戰火，正德六年(1511)巡撫任漢命知縣徐冠遷建於冠山之中峯。中構堂5間，南向有祠，堂之東仍構雲鳳堂，西築講堂，東西廊號房以處講學者。規制為之一新。提學副使李夢陽為記。萬曆八年(1580)復廢。繼就二賢祠基址重建，明末圮。清順治十一年(1654)興屯道翟風翥墮修，題額“高風百世”。內祀朱熹，以趙汝愚、趙汝靚、曹建、柴元裕、饒魯、胡居仁等配享。翟自為記。

康熙十二年(1673)知縣江南齡會同邑士民增建，自為記。嘉慶十五年(1810)重修雲鳳堂、千越亭、集義堂、慎獨堂、麗澤堂、文昌宮、魁星閣，後又在門外階下建入德門坊，道光三年(1823)書“明體達用”橫匾與“讀書志在聖賢，為官心存君國”聯語懸之。同治七年(1868)邑人重修。知縣常山鳳立《捐置東山書院膏火經費善後規條》，立定經費管理、生徒膏火額數與發放、扣除，考課取錄及對生童的獎懲制度等。

冬天向我們揮手告別，萬紫千紅的春天向我們走來，今天我和媽媽迎着和煦的春風來到美麗的東山書院。

跨入大門，出現在我面前的是一條石板拼成的小路。路旁有一條青青的小河，河岸有一大片紫藤，，枝條浸在清徹的水裏，真像一個個婀娜多姿的少女在梳洗長長的髮辮。水面泛起微微的波紋，原來是一條小魚悄悄地把頭探出水面，調皮的吹了一個小泡泡又潛入水底。

我們走上通向書院正門的石板橋，路兩旁那高大而挺拔的松樹像歡迎我的到來。書院前坪景色讓我眼前一亮，小草從土裏鑽出來，綠油油的，像剛染過似的;草地中央是青翠欲滴的鳳尾竹，像久別重逢的兄弟姐妹擁抱在一起。

進入書院大門，映入眼前的是兩棵漂亮的白玉蘭樹，那盛開的花朵，就如夜空中同時點亮的一盞盞蓮花燈，又像少女潔白的舞裙。我被這一自然奇觀吸引住了，向前走是毛澤東的銅像，銅像高大魁梧，令人肅然起敬。我不由得想起《恰同學少年》中，少年毛澤東那朝氣蓬勃的形象，耳中響起“山川在我腳下，大地在我懷中”的吶喊。我恭恭敬敬的朝主席行了一個隊禮，毛主席嘴角露着笑意，似乎在鼓勵我。經過東齋，來到毛澤東讀書的教室，裏面擺着幾行古老的座位，有一個位子上寫着：毛澤東坐過的座位。我在上面特意坐了一下，心想：我如果也能像毛澤東爺爺一樣能夠造福百姓就好了。

我愛東山學校，這裏不僅是一個風景美麗的地方，也是一代偉人的母校。
